Is Natural/Curly Hair a Trend?

Is Natural or Curly Hair a Fad or a Trend?

Hi, it's Dee your Curly Hair Stylist and Enthusiast.

I just wanted to share with you my thoughts on this topic. I would say we all can be influenced by what's trending. If you don't believe it. Check out your photos from the 80's(big hair) and if you got married in the 80's your brides maids had those notorious puffed sleeves and high collars.

For me wearing my hair in its natural state for the first time since I was a young girl was easier to embrace because so many people was doing it. My decision to do it was not based on what everyone else was doing. Like many I noticed that my hair wasn't as thick and healthy as it had been all my life. I also found myself planning my life around my hairstyles. Working out was not an option once my hair was styled.

My health became more important than my hair. So I decided to leave the chemical relaxers alone and explore my natural texture. It took a while to embrace what I saw in the mirror. With time and leaning how to enhance my curls I wouldn't have it any other way. So for me it's not a fad it's a lifestyle choice. From time to time I do miss that sleek straight hair, so once a year I may flat iron my hair and after a week or so I'm missing my curls.

I cannot not speak for every curly girl or naturalista.  I have noticed that some has resulted back to chemicals and heat styling if their hair texture is not to their liking. So for some I think it's what is trending for the moment, but that's ok too. If you are considering venturing into the Natural World do your home work, have realistic expectations. Natural hair IS NOT CARE FREE! Natural hair does not automatically mean healthy hair, your results will depend on how you care for your hair.

This is me and my mom May 2016. I have learned to accept who I am and embrace the hair that grows out of My Scalp. There's many textures and curl patterns and I admire them all but, It's not healthy to compare yourself to others constantly! It's truly a journey.
